Betty Lou Frazier Simmons Smothers, 86, passed away at her residence on Thursday, April 4, 2024. She was born on August 4, 1937 in Belzoni to the late Willie L. Frazier and Lula Mae Poole Frazier Allen. When Betty Lou was 8 years old, her family moved to Hamilton where she attended Hamilton School. She married Allen Earl Simmons in 1955 and they had 2 children, Deborah and Danny. She and Allen Earl were married until his death in 2004. Betty worked in the area garment industry and was also the co owner of Hamilton Mini Storage. She loved being outdoors, especially gardening. Betty had a green thumb and could make anything grow. She also enjoyed sewing and made her family several outfits throughout the years. Her claim to fame were her famous caramel pies. Throughout the years, her pies were a staple at area fundraisers. Betty was a devoted Christian. She raised her family at Center Hill Baptist Church where they were all baptized on the same day. She later worshipped at Hamilton Baptist church.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Deborah Harmon (Steve) of Hamilton; grandchildren, Adam Harmon (Jeanna), Hamilton and Ashley Harmon Baggett (Brandon), Hamilton; grandchildren, Samantha and Addison Harmon, Dannie Beth and Kimber Baggett; sister, Catherine Bell, Hamilton; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Allen Earl Simmons; son, Danny Simmons; nephew, Lee Bell; brothers, Charles “Chuck: Frazier, Billy Frazier and Sonny Frazier; her 2nd husband, Robert Smothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 PMM on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Tisdale Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with Bro. Robert Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Center Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Adam Harmon, Brandon Baggett, Wayne Nunn, Glen Imel, Orien Holley and Terry Holman. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, prior to the service from 11 AM until 12:45 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Monroe County Cross of Christ at The Create Foundation, PO Box 1053 Tupelo, Ms 38802.
