Dorlos “Bo” Robinson, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Bo was born and raised in Hamilton, Mississippi, and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1952. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. While serving, Bo married the love of his life, Betty Irvin. The couple later moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they began building their life together. When Bo’s father, Leon, became ill, they returned to Mississippi to care for the family farm — a place Bo deeply loved and where his son Tony would later continue the family farming legacy.
Bo’s love for people and passion for service led him into politics. He began his political journey as Sheriff of Monroe County, serving one term. He was then elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives, District 20, where he served another term. Following that, Governor Ray Mabus appointed Bo to complete a term as Northern District Public Service Commissioner. Bo later ran for the position and was elected, serving with dedication for 18 years.
In November 2007, Bo retired from public service but remained active in his community and on the farm. He and Betty enjoyed traveling, often accompanied by her sister Elaine and husband Preston. Even in retirement, Bo cherished time on the farm and moments spent with his beloved family.
Bo was a lifelong man of faith and an active member of Hamilton United Methodist Church, now known as Hamilton Friendship Church. He also served as a lay speaker for Buena Vista Methodist Church and Pleasant Grove Methodist Church for over 41 years, faithfully sharing his love of Christ with others. In 2001, Bo began planning a dream of bringing the Cross to Monroe County. In 2024 Bo was in attendance for the raising of the cross.
Bo was preceded in death by his parents Leon Robinson and Avelene Robinson Thompson, one son Tony Michael, one sister Christine Sanders. He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty of 72 years, his daughter DeAndra, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy of love, service, and faith.
Bo will be remembered for his deep compassion, unwavering integrity, and lifetime of service to both his community and the Lord.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at Hamilton Friendship Church. The Robinson family will receive friends immediately following the service. Everyone is asked to arrive at the church at 1:50 PM for the service.
Bo's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his caregivers, Loretta Johnson, Gen Ann Jones, Brenda Payne and a special thanks to his hospice nurse, Caitlin Lacy.
I lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the CREATE foundation in Bo’s honor for the cross.
