Edward Clayton Smith, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at the Care Center of Aberdeen surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Monroe County on May 26, 1943, he was a son to Velcie ‘Dollie’ Garrett Smith and Grover Smith. Clayton was a hard worker and had a great work ethic which he passed on to his girls. He worked for Walker, Tennaco, and Hooker but his passion was doing income tax in his home office and buying and selling vehicles while working a full-time job and making lifelong friends along the way.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at Center Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Center Hill Cemetery.
He is survived by his daughters, Patty Studdard (Craig), Columbia, TN and Tammy Allen (James) from Hamilton, MS; 6 grandchildren, Trea Studdard, Murfreesboro, Tori Cerynik (Will), Sandy, UT, Tia Wilson (Zack), Jackson, TN, Destiny McCullough (Nate), Columbus, Brittni Rosales (Jose), Hamilton, and Mitch Allen (Haleigh), Aberdeen; 13 great grandchildren, Jaylen, Zeke, Malachi, Larston, Lahna, Lockhart, Mina, Vera Jo, Kullen, Millie, Jesse, Elijah, and Parker; special friends, Dan and Nell Blancate, Gene Owens, and Linda Baker.
Preceding him in death are his parents, and one brother, Grover Smith, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Trae Studdard, James Allen, Jesse Allen, Anthony Cornell, Jeremy Trimm, and Nate McCullough.
A special thanks is extended to Matt Harris, NP, Monroe Regional Hospital and the swing-bed unit, Care Center of Aberdeen, and Legacy Hospice for the kindness and love shown to our dad.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the church.
