Dorothy June Ray, 87, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus. Born on August 30, 1937 in Monroe County to Willie Robert and Jessie Mae Spurgeon Hickman. She was a proud graduate of Aberdeen High School. On May 14, 1955, she married her husband, Onie D. Ray and moved to Chicago where she worked for Chicago Metallic many years before moving back to Monroe County in 1978. While living up north, she taught her friends how to make cornbread and she always had a large vegetable garden. With her amazing green thumb, she could grow any kind of flowers. Dorothy had a heart for animals and rescued many dogs throughout her life. She always had a desire to know more, and she was very learned by her own reading and studying. Her hobbies included crocheting, working crossword puzzles, watching wrestling, NASCAR, and birds.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Fig Hill Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

She is survived by one son, Robert Ray of Hamilton; two daughters, Ronda Clements (Paul), Codova, TN and Sharon Whitworth, Aberdeen; her siblings, Daisy Louise Rizer, Ocala, Betty Joyce Johns, Patricia Elaine Hickman, Perry Wayne Hickman, Bonnie Ruth Caslteberry, Charlie Melford Hickman all of Ocala, FL; son-in-law, Larry Whitworth; 8 grandchildren, Richard Ray, Los Angeles, CA, Jennifer Babakhanyan, Los Angeles, CA, Michael Ray, Saltillo, Angie Lynn Minx, Lackey, Timothy Whitworth, Lackey, Alex Byrd (Lauren), Memphis, Anna Clements, Memphis, and Adam Clements, Memphis; 8 great grandchildren, Chloe Bell, Cheyenne Bell Dunagan, Atticus Minks, Urijah Minks, Hailey Deanne Babakhanyan, Zhirayr Joseph Babakhanyan, and Khachik Christopher Paul Babakhanyan, and Benjamin Byrd; two great great grandchildren; special friends, Peggy and Bobby Gault, Linda May, and Carol Crawford; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Onie D. Ray;  one son, Ricky Dell Ray; one daughter, Nancy Yvonne; her siblings, Thomas Odell Hickman, James Gerron Hickman, Annie Earl Wimberly, George Robert Hickman, Carol Sue Wagner, Daisy Mae Higdon, and Willie Bell Tate. 

Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery for the service.
