Gladys Moore Lanier

April 12, 1922 — June 30, 2019

Gladys Moore Lanier, 97, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019, at Garden Hill Assisted Living, Columbus MS. Gladys was born April 12, 1922, in Athens MS to the late Frank and Jennie Jackson Moore. In 1940 she graduated from Aberdeen High School, Aberdeen MS. After graduation, she worked for the Draft Board in Aberdeen MS. In 1942 she married George Herbert Lanier, Jr. of Starkville MS. They were married in the First Baptist Church of Tupelo pastor’s home. While her sons were young, she was a stay-at-home mother. As they grew older she went back to work. She worked for the Griffin Lamp Company in Shelby MS, and Glenn Manufacturing in Amory MS from which she retired in 1984. Her family was important to her, and she took care of them well. Gladys was a great cook and had a green thumb. She was a well-respected member of the Athens community and a faithful member of Athens Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Ralph and William Moore; her husband, George Herbert Lanier, Jr.; and her son George Herbert Lanier, III. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Gene and Charlotte Lanier of Columbus MS; grandchildren Amy Lanier Perkins of Columbus and Stuart Lanier of Starkville MS; and great-grandson Will Perkins. Special thanks to the great staff of Garden Hill Assisted Living and Sylvia Richardson for the care and comfort they provided.
