James Howell "Jimmy" Cole

December 11, 1949 — April 10, 2022

James Howell “Jimmy” Cole, age 72, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Oaktree Manor in Amory, MS.  Jimmy was born December 1, 1949, in Aberdeen, MS, to Ruby Howell Cole and James Herschel Cole.  He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1967.  His cherished high school memories were his days spent as the manager of the Little Ten Championship Football Team.  He also enjoyed his years as a Boy Scout.

Jimmy attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg and was a die hard Eagles fan as well as a fan of the MSU Bulldogs, the New Orleans Saints, and the LSU Tigers.  He moved to Louisiana after attending Southern and lived in various towns around the New Orleans area until moving to Escatawpa, MS, in 2019.  He was very proud of his house on the Pascagoula River.

Jimmy worked in sales all of his life, and his interest in shoes began when he was employed by Schurr’s Department Store in Aberdeen.  He later worked for various shoe companies such as Timberland, Rocky, Freeman, and Dr. Marten and was names Salesman of the Region and Salesman of the Year for Timberland.

Jimmy’s hobbies included genealogy, reading, watching sports, and sitting on his deck at Escatawpa.

A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Howell Cemetery with Mike Smith and Bro. Tim Wilson officiating.

Survivors include special cousins, Lynn “Cissy” Howell Crump (Gene) of Aberdeen, William “Bubba” Howell of Amory, MS, Mark Howell (Sue) of Aberdeen, Hannah Brayer of Aberdeen and her children, Chris and Abby; paternal aunts, Dorothy Cole Thompson (Gene), Jeanette Cole Pence, Martha W. Cole; paternal uncle, Charlie Calhoon; paternal cousins, Carolyn Haney, Georgette Armstong (Chad), Harold Sprayberry (Carolyn), Beecher Weatherall, Charlie Weatherall (Ben), Mary Ann Miller (Harry), Melynda Cole (Manny), Chipper Calhoon (Deanie), Tommy Pence (Amanda), Joyce Spraberry, and Rene Miley; close friends, Mike and Gwyn Smith of Brookhaven and their son, Chad and his family, and Dr. James Smith of Madisonville, LA, and his children and their families. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Howell Cole and James H. Cole; his grandparents, Mae Moulder Howell and Ira Green Howell and Rubye Vickers Cole and Mervin Cole; a special aunt, Nell Howell; a special uncle and aunt, William “Bill” Howell and Tommie Carole Howell; Andy Brayer, husband of his beloved cousin, Hannah; paternal aunts and uncles, Rachel Cole Brown (Tom), Helen Cole Spraberry (S. L), Olene Cole Roberts (Frank), Doris Cole Weatherall (J. W.), Alice Cole Calhoon, Morris Cole, Thomas Cole (Mary), Vernon Cole, Tom Pence;  paternal cousins, Sammy Spraberry, Jimmy Cole Weatherall, Jimmie Louise Buba, Glenda Cole Johnson, Larry Bruce Cole, Terry Cole White, Maurice Haney, and Lori Weatherall.

Pallbearers are Dwight McComb, Tim Wilson, Tommy Kirkpatrick, James Emerson Smith, Mark Howell, Evan Clay Bolen.

Honorary Pallbearers are members of the 1965 Aberdeen High School Little Ten Championship Football Team.

Visitation will be from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
