James Myron Stockton, 89, passed away on Monday evening, December 15, 2025, at his home in Amory. He was born in Aberdeen on October 13, 1936, to William L., Sr. and Margaret Laverne Edgeworth Stockton. A graduate of Aberdeen High School, he also attended the University of Mississippi and was a Rebel through and through. James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Security Agency attaining top secret security clearance. He married the former Lois Lusk on July 20, 1957, and for many years, he partnered with his father and brother as owners of Stockton Oil Co., a bulk distributor for Sinclair and later Exxon. After selling the business, he retired in 2001from Tommy Brooks Oil Co. James loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting. He was an avid collector of arrowheads and a craftsman knife maker. He cherished his home and property in Aberdeen but recently moved to Amory. Along with his wife, he liked to travel near and abroad. James was a member of Aberdeen Church of Christ, where he proudly served as a Deacon and looked forward to the church fish fries.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery with Ministers Jonathan Hagar and Jonathan Godsey officiating. Visitation will be from noon until 1:45 at the funeral home.
In addition to his wife of 68 years, Lois Lusk Stockton, he is survived by his son, Wendell Stockton (Paige), Lake Park, GA; daughters, Karen Burroughs, Amory and Sharon Falkner (Bert), West Point, MS; 6 grandchildren, Kristie Summerford Coker (Jeffrey), Chase Summerford, Abby Ables (Andrew), Dr. Murry Falkner, Sage Stockton (Kelli), and Haley Stockton; two great grandchildren, Jon Lowery Coker and Benjamin Dodd Ables.
Preceding him in death are his parents; infant son, James Myron Stockton, Jr; brother, William L. Stockton, Jr.; sister-in-law, Nancy Cantrell Stockton; son-in-law, Louis Burroughs; his mother and father-in-law, Lois and John Marshall Lusk, Sr.; and brother-in-law, John Marshall Lusk, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Jeffery Coker, Chase Summerford, Andrew Ables, Sage Stockton, Dr. Murry Falkner and Jon Lowery Coker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dwight McComb, Sr., James Whitehead, Pat Birkholz, Jimmy Williams, and Leslie Grant.
The family would like to pay special thanks to his care givers of recent months including Curtis Hilt, Kim Jarrett, Tiffany Rooks, Trisha Cunningham, and Candy Ott.
Memorials may be to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; Palmer Home for Children, Columbus, MS, or to Pinevale Children’s Home, Corinth, MS.
