Jerry Morris “Buddy” Leach, 87, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at his home in the Coontail Community with his family by his side. Born in Carrollton, MS on November 1, 1938, he was the son to Emmett Leach, II and Annie Miller Mims Leach Davis. He was a graduate of Lee High School in Columbus and attended Mississippi State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Germany in the early sixties. Prior to his retirement, he worked in management for Trailways/Greyhound bus lines and later drove for Action Lane Industries. He had great enjoyment spending Sunday evenings with his great grandson, Taylor. They would visit the car lots looking at cars and trucks, going to the park to play and then end up at McDonald’s to get a happy meal. His hobbies were working in the yard and enjoying his two cats, Garfield and Angel. He was married to the former Gale Gill, and he was Methodist by faith.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a stateroom service to follow at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home. He will be buried in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton. 

In addition to his wife of 59 years, Gale Leach, he is survived by two sons, Robert Morris Leach (Janet), Florence, MS and Walter Allen Leach (Tonya), Brandon, MS; grandchildren, Zachary Leach, Jacob Leach (Shelby), Jared Leach, Harley Leach (Logan Burrows), and Julia Leach; 5 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter expected in January.  He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Robbie McGrath, and special friend, Billy K. Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Emmett “Mack” Leach, III; and sister, Greta Monfee.

Pallbearers will be Robert Leach, Walter Leach, Zachary Leach, Jacob Leach, Jared Leach, Taylor Leach, and Billy K. Thompson.
