Lee "Son" Murff, Jr.

Lee Connell "Son" Murff, Jr. passed away at his residence on Friday, October 4, 2024 surrounded by his family.  Lee was born in Monroe County on September 9, 1931 to the late Lee Connell Murff, Sr. and Mary Sue Basham Murff.  He grew up in Hamilton and was a graduate of Hamilton High School, Class of 1950 and he attended IJC in Fulton.  On January 3, 1951 Lee enlisted into the United States Air Force in Columbus.  He honorably served during the Korean Conflict  and was headquartered with the 3600th Air Base out of Luke AFB in Glendale, AZ.  Lee was a proud and patriotic veteran holding lifetime memberships with the VFW, DAV, the Forty and Eight Veterans Society and the American Legion.  After his service in the Air Force, Lee returned to Monroe County and married Jimmie Nell Thompson on December 21, 1956.  He had a longtime career at Walker Manufacturing in Aberdeen and retired as a supervisor with 30 years service.  After retirement Lee proudly served 20 years as the Monroe County Veterans Service Director where he was able to help numerous veterans and their spouses receive their veteran benefits.  More than anything, Lee loved his family.  A faithful Christian, he served at Hamilton Presbyterian Church as a Sunday school teacher and also as a lay speaker and Sunday school teacher at Athens Independent Methodist Church in his earlier years.  In his pastime, Lee loved to golf and was a member of the Old Amory Golf Course and the Hamilton Country Club.  

Lee is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Jimmie Nell Murff; children, Jerry Pittman (Susie), Hamilton, Linda Murff, Hamilton and Carol Reynolds (Steve), Amory; grandchildren, Tracy Pittman (Wendy), Hamilton, Cody Pittman (Brianna), Hamilton, Bridget Smith, Hamilton, Jaimy Murff, Florence, AL, Britt Reynolds (Brooke), Starkville, Cary Reynolds, Nashville and Leigh Kathryn Reynolds, Amory; 7 great grandchildren and one on the way.

In addition to his parents, Lee is preceded in death by a special grandmother, Kate Farrar Murff.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, October 6, 2024 at Tisdale Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with Bro. Steve Reynolds officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in Ross Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Tracy Pittman, Cody Pittman, Britt Reynolds, Cary Reynolds, Jaimy Murff and Cameron Smitson.  Honorary pallbearers will be the nurses and staff of Legacy Hospice and special caregivers, Kim Jarrett, Daren Clinton, Taylor Burdine and Teresa Burdine.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Sunday from 2 pm until 3 pm at the funeral home.

Donations may be given to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation or to Meadowood Baptist Church Children's Ministry 1512 Hatley Rd Amory, MS 38821.
