Mary Lou Looney, age 79, of Nettleton, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at her residence on January 8, 2025. She was born on October 12, 1946, in Atwood, Alabama, to James Freddie Oliver and Rosey Mae Burkett Oliver. Mary Lou attended Nettleton Schools and devoted her life to being a loving stay-at-home mother and wife. She had a deep love for God and was a faithful member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church. Mary Lou was known for her warm smile and joyful laughter, which brightened the lives of everyone around her. She cherished her family dearly and found great joy in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Beyond her own family, Mary Lou cherished her church family and friends. She also dearly loved her faithful pup, Chip.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Jones Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Wesley Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Chapel Cemetery.
She is survived by her sister, Peggy Oliver Brookman; her children: Richard (Debra) Hester of Nettleton, Sue (Lee) Dunaway of Marietta, Bonnie (Brian) Isaac of New Albany, Eddie (Suzanne) Looney of Nettleton, and William Looney of Marietta; nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edgar Neil Looney; her brothers, James Oliver, Alrin Ray Oliver, and Jack Oliver; her sister, Jackie Oliver; and her great-granddaughter, Payzleigh Tyler Groves.
Mary Lou will be remembered for her faith, kindness, smiling, laughing, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Eric Dunaway, Josh Isaac, Will Easterling, Colin Young, Jonathan Jackson, and Ben Boggs.
Visitation will be prior to the service on Saturday from noon until the service time at the church.
