Matthew Vincent Harrigan
May 5th, 1993-November 2, 2021
You have left us too soon dear son, we will miss you terribly and we carry on knowing you are in God’s warm embrace. Goodbye for now son, brother and grandchild. We love and will see you soon.
Matthew Vincent Harrigan of Guntersville, Al passed away on November 2, 2021. Matthew was born May 5th, 1993 in Gainesville, FL, to Steven and Lesa Patrick Harrigan.
Matthew graduated from Chamberlain Hunt Military Academy in Mississippi with highest honors, receiving 9 awards upon graduation for his Debate and Oratory achievements, as well as his Academic and Athletic achievements while attending the Academy. Matthew had many interests in life. He attended Auburn University (even though he was an avid Florida Gator fan!) where he studied Engineering and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He left Auburn before completing his degree and went on to pursue a career in commercial diving. Matthew enjoyed diving, rock repelling and riding motorcycles with his brother and father. Most recently he tried his hand at stand-up comedy. He loved to make people smile and laugh. Matthew was a gifted writer and was an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction. He found pleasure in writing fictional short stories and he especially enjoyed corresponding with his Grandmother during his travels.
Matthew was in the process of moving to Guntersville and had just spent the last month of his life helping his parents on their farm in Guntersville. He enjoyed mowing the pastures, riding dirt bikes on the property, going on long motorcycle rides along the lake with his Dad and feeding the fish in the farm pond. He especially loved spending time with the family dog Marcellus whom he “gifted” to his parents some years ago. What you saw was always what you got with him and if you were lucky enough to be his friend, he was a truly delightful, generous, easy going, fun loving human being.
Matthew leaves behind his parents, and his brother Robert Harrigan as well as his Grandparents Latney and Chris Tate Porter of Alamo, TN and many extended family members, Aunts, Uncles and cousins in Mississippi, Nevada, Texas, Arkansas, Oregon, California and Washington state.
A private service was held at Odd Fellows cemetery in Aberdeen, Ms on November 26, 2021.
