On Sunday, October 25, 2026, in Rusk, TX, Peggy Sue Hester-Hamlett, 74, completed her earthly journey and began her eternal one. Though her absence leaves an immeasurable emptiness in the hearts of those who loved her, the love she gave, the memories she created, and the legacy she leaves behind will forever live on.
Peggy Sue Hester was born in Tupelo, Mississippi to Rena Bell and Carl Winford Hester of February 10, 1952. She grew up in Wren, Mississippi. She married Larry Thomas Hamlett on August 21, 1971, and together they built a family that became one of her greatest life-long impacts. She was blessed with four daughters and one son. Her love for her family continued through her eight granddaughters, and was even more blessed with thirteen great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
During the last ten years of her grace-filled life, Peggy moved to Alto, TX to be closer to her “Bruh,” as she affectionately called him, also known as her favorite kid.
She is lovingly survived by her husband, Larry Thomas Hamlett; her son, Larry “Bruh” Dewayne Hamlett (Stacy), Alto, TX; and her youngest daughter, Tina Hamlett, Amory. She also leaves behind a lasting imprint of love through her children, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish the memories they shared and carry her love with them throughout their lives. Her grandchildren include, Alison Hurley Robertson (Sam), Itawamba County, Abbiegale Smith Adams (Michael), Okinawa, Japan, Autum Person Coller (Michael), Bentonville, AR, Amy Person (Dustin Poss), Wren, Lena Hamlett Pace (Jamie), Lackey, Halie Edwards (Brent Kennedy), Amory, Cheyne Hamlett, Lackey, and Maggie Mae Edwards Funderburk, (JR), Greenwood Springs. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom was a cherished part of her family. She leaves behind countless memories, moments of laughter, and a lifetime of love that will forever hold a special place in their hearts. In addition, she is survived by her two beloved brothers, Herbert Springer, Becker and Carl Winford Hester, Jr., Shannon.
Her love for her brothers ran deep, and she held them in the highest regard. She loved them dearly, admired them tremendously, and carried a special affection for each of them. The bond they shared was one she truly treasured, and the memories and love they shared as siblings will forever remain close to her heart.
She leaves behind her dear, sweet sister and best friend, Debra Morris (Ricky), Shannon. Their bond went far beyond sisterhood. They were each other’s confidante and an irreplaceable part of one another’s everyday lives. They talked daily, shared life’s joys and sorrows, and leaned on one another through the years. Their sisterly bond was built on a lifetime of love, friendship, laughter, and memories that will never fade. Debra held a place in Peggy’s heart that no one else could ever fill, and their beautiful bond will live on through the hearts of everyone who witnessed the depth of their love for one another.
She also leaves behind her cherished sisters-in-love, Linda Hester, Shannon, Nona Springer, Becker, and Angie Hester of Pontotoc, Tammi Kimbrough, Greenwood Springs, and Zebbie Caldwell, Nettleton; her beloved brothers-in-love, Ricky Morris, Shannon and Terry Hamlett, Winfield, AL.
She joins in eternal peace those who were waiting to welcome her home, including her beloved parents, Rena and Winford Hester; her precious daughters, including her identical twin baby girls, Melinda and Belinda Sue Hamlett, who were taken far too soon, just days after their birth, her beloved daughter, Melissa Hamlett, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 42; and her cherished younger brother, Danny Hester.
Though their time apart was filled with longing, they are now reunited, embraced once more by the love that death could never take away. They will forever remain together in eternity, held close in a love that knows no end.
Peggy’s greatest joy in life was her family, the memories she created, and the love she poured into each generation. Though she is no longer beside them, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, and all who were blessed to know and love her. Her love will continue to live on through every generation, a beautiful reminder that while a life may come to an end, the love we leave behind never does.
Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with visitation one hour prior to the service. Andrew Martin will officiate and Michael James will deliver the eulogy both of whom are Peggy’s nephews.
