Robert “Rabbit” Pounders, age 69, of Hamilton, MS passed away 7/27/23 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Center Hill Baptist Church in Hamilton with Dr. James Towery and Bro. Dennis Smithey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Tisdale Lann Memorial Funeral Home directing.
Visitation will be on Saturday, 7/29/23 from 5-7 at Tisdale Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Evelyn Pounders and his sister, Teresa “Jodi” Patterson.
Survivors include his son, Chad Pounders and wife, Jennifer; daughters, Brandy Carter and Mitzie Darty; grandchildren, Jace Carter, Jaclyn Carter, Emma Kate Pounders, Evan Pounders, Ellie Pounders, Stuart Coggins, and Charlie Coggins; nephew, Vann Patterson; niece, Bridget King; and girlfriend, Mitzi White.
“Rabbit”, as he was affectionately known to his friends and family, retired from Kerr McGee Chemical in 2000. He then started his own lawn care business in Mobile, Alabama known as “Rabbit’s Lawn Care” with the motto, “We Hop to It”. He recently retired from Hamilton Water Dept. after serving 12 years as the Dept. Manager. Rabbit had numerous interests and hobbies including hunting, fishing, riding his Harley, watching his grandchildren play ball, golfing, and beating anyone he faced in a corn-hole match. In the fall, you could find Robert on the chain gang at home football games for the Hamilton Lions. Robert was tough as nails, strong as an ox, and a hard worker who loved his family and friends dearly.
Pallbearers will be Evan Pounders, Jace Carter, Ricky Reynolds, Bradley Burroughs, Rusty McCartney, Kendall Gosa, Lynn West, Tracey Cockerham, Spencer McCartney, and Richard Bean. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hank Harrington, Nathan Self, J.C. Evans, Denny Kirk, Bruce Grimes, Randy Grimes, Baron Hamner, and Kelly Reynolds.
