Tommy Lawson

Sep 6, 1930 — Sep 3, 2026

Longtime minister, Thomas Gerald Lawson, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, September 3, 2026 at his home just shy of his 96th birthday. He was born on September 6, 1930 in Una to William Denton Lawson and Edna Jewell Huffman Lawson. Tommy grew up in Okolona where he attended school and he was married to the former Nell Hanna on June 19, 1953. In his early years, he worked for Indian Creek Apparel in Okolona and Triple T Bar-b-Que in Wren. He was a minister, preaching for over 55 years, having served the Wren, Lawson Chapel, Nettleton, and Skyline Churches of Christ. A great Bible student, he committed many scriptures to many and often would quote them at different times such as the dinner table recently, I John 1:7, “But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.” In his early years, he was an accomplished pool player and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition, he often frequented any Chinese buffet, and going to thrift stores and yard sales. Above all, his greatest desire as a preacher would be for all who hear God’s word to follow Jesus all their days, and live in hope of Heaven.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Wren Church of Christ with Minister Marshall Eubanks officiating. Terry Lawson will deliver the family eulogy. Burial will follow in the Wren Cemetery.
