Aberdeen, MS

Wanda Stelene Word Edwards passed away at her home in Aberdeen, MS on August 1, 2023 at the age of 79. She was born on April 12, 1944 to her parents Edward V. Word and Roberta Elaine Hull Word. Her family moved to Aberdeen when Wanda was very young and she spent her life in her beloved town. She attended Aberdeen Public Schools and graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1962. It was during these times she cultivated many friendships which lasted throughout her life. She loved and cherished them all.

Wanda was united in marriage to William (Bill) Edwards on May 25, 1962, Bill's devotion and caregiving  has been an inspiration to all who who have been blessed to know them.

She worked as the first employed secretary for Friendship Baptist Church. She later worked for 9 years for Attorney Robert D. Patterson doing oil and gas work before becoming a secretary for the firm. The last 24 years of her professional career were spent working at the United States Bankruptcy Court as calendar clerk for Judge David W. Houston III.

Her family was her heart. She loved each individually and collectively. One of her greatest joys was having Camp Nannie for 19 years for the 5 granddaughters. She and Bill would have the girls, without their parents, for a week that none of them will ever forget. The entire week was spent making memories not only for the girls but also for Nannie and Gran Bill.

Wanda was a member of Aberdeen First United Methodist Church and the Agape Sunday School Class. She also taught Sunday School and served on various church committees

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bill, her two children Mitch Edwards (Cindy) of Madison, Alabama and daughter Kerri Foster (Jeff) of Nashville, TN. Five granddaughters: Emily Murphy (Andrew) of Norfolk, VA; Meg Lowe (Harry) of Atlanta, GA; Katherine Day (Gabe) of Charlotte NC; Sloan Davis and Kate Davis of Nashville, TN. Four great grandchildren: Eli and Bo Murphy and Harris and Walker Lowe. One special niece, Elizabeth Word Lott (Jamie) and Elizabeth's mother Sara Lepicier.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward (Ed) V. Word.
